I want to share a personal experience with you; several years ago, in my undergraduate days, I wrote a mid-semester examination which I failed woefully, I didn’t understand the course ab initio. I approached the lecturer and pleaded with him for a make-up test; he not only refused, but he told me, he would come to the lecture room to read out our scores. I couldn’t believe my ears at the impending embarrassment. I knew the devil was at work; I promptly went to God in prayer.

The countdown began and I was getting nervous as the d-day approached, after a while I put my mind to rest and I was prepared for anything. My faith wasn’t strong, I must confess, but God has a way of meeting us mid-way, when our faith reaches its threshold.

The day of decision came and true to the lecturer’s resolution, he had the file with our scores on his table. But the bible makes it clear, when the enemy shall come like a flood, the Spirit of the lord shall lift a standard against him. God has not promised us a life void of challenges. He made it emphatically clear, challenges shall come our way but we shall prevail. As soon as he brought out the file, a student walked into the lecture room and told him of an urgent meeting taking place in the senate room; he had to leave immediately. That’s how God helped me on that fateful day. But remember, the Devil left Jesus for a season, he came back later.

The lecturer gave us an assignment; we had the task of writing all the practicals for the semester in our record book. To my utmost dismay, I was given a score way below what he gave others for the same work. I was devastated, but I remained calm, because I knew the devil was bent on frustrating me.

To make matters worse, I fell sick about a week to the final examination. Guess what? The lecturer’s paper was my first paper. A night before the examination, I could barely lift a finger. But in the middle of the night, God woke me up and gave me strength and understanding of the course; I studied carefully and went to the examination hall to write my exam, which I did very well.

I began to study for the practical examination of the same course; we had to study 13 practicals but I didn’t, I picked the two easiest programs and studied them. It sounded crazy and you’ll understand why very soon; I was confident of picking the easiest one, and I didn’t hesitate to tell everyone, the specific program I was going to pick. Perhaps you’re wondering what I mean by picking, let me explain; the programs were ascribed numbers which were carefully written in folded papers; they’ll then be put in a box where you have to pick one. In other words, you’ll be picking at random; you could be unlucky to pick a program you find difficult; it was further made more complicated because, if you intend to pick another, 20 marks would be subtracted from the 60 marks ascribed for the practical examination. The probability you’d pick a favourable program is also slim, hence the need to study all the 13 programs.

On the day of the exam, a colleague waited to see what I was going to pick, for I had told him what I would pick. Before I entered the hall, I stretched forth my hands to heaven and declared ‘Bubble sorting’, the name of the Program. I entered the hall, dipped my hand into the box, opened the paper, and to my delight it was the Bubble sorting program, I wanted to write. Courtesy of the transparent louvers, I made hand gestures to my friend outside to confirm, I picked ‘the one’, I was elated. The testimony didn’t stop there; God is willing to do abundantly more than we can ask…We had to take turns in batches, for the examination and as soon as there was a free system, I was instructed to use it.

Surprisingly, the system stopped working, though someone had used it; I was told to wait for another system, which I did. I hopped unto the next system and this time around, it was the same story, the system was malfunctioning. I had to wait for another person to finish, before I could write my exam; the wait came to an end; as soon as I sat down, I heard the voice of his majesty, saying,’ check the system’; I couldn’t believe what God was telling me because, the systems were always formatted before examinations, thus, there should be nothing on the system. I told God,’ there can’t be a thing on this system’ but I obeyed the voice of God, for the bible says, ‘if you’re willing and obedient, you’ll eat the good of the land.’

I checked the saved files on the program, and to my utmost surprise, the copy of the bubble sorting program was on the system. I couldn’t believe my eyes; I could tell the source of the program due to the complexity of the program; it was from the lecturer. No student would have written a program in that manner, we would have written it in a simpler way. I ran the program and lo, it was working perfectly. I bet you can guess the rest of the story.

How the program surfaced on the system remains a mystery. Forgotten there? I do not know because they wipe everything from the system before examination. One thing is clear though, God led me to the system. When I got to the first system, I could picture Jehovah saying,’ no this isn’t the system son. I proceeded to the second one and my father said, ‘you are close but not there. Immediately I got to ‘the one’,’ I heard the voice of my father,’ check the system.” God has promised to lead us to green pastures and he did just that with me;he is no respecter of persons, hence, i know he can guide you to your glorious destination. I have several testimonies of the leading of God in every area of my life; it is the most important thing in the world.

I want you to move closer to God, because his counsel makes the difference in every facet of life. Shalom!

Rev 12:11: And they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the words of their testimony…

There is nothing God desires than fellowship and communion with him; he has made this possible via counsel, which are profitable for our Christian walk on earth. God instructs us in diverse ways via the Holy Spirit; it could be the audible voice of the Spirit albeit it seldom is; dreams and visions; via his word; inward witness, which is the primary way the Spirit of God communicates with us. There could also be an impression in our spirit,or a nudge in a certain direction.

God speaks to us in diverse manners; it’s our job to discover the primary way God communicates with us and develop it. The bible declares:’’ But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him (1 John 2:20,27).’’ The Holy Spirit is present on our inside to guide us into all truth.

God is in the business of speaking, It is therefore funny to hear, ‘I can’t hear from God’; the bible says he that has ears let him hear what the Spirit saith; so it is important to be in the spirit to hear what God is saying. The book of Job 33:14-16, makes us understand:,’ For God [does reveal His will; He] speaks not only once, but more than once, even though men do not regard it [including you, Job].[One may hear God’s voice] in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men while slumbering upon the bed, Then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction [terrifying them with warnings].

In the book of revelation, we’re made to understand John was in the spirit and he heard a voice…Until you are in the Spirit, you can’t hear from God. You must saturate your mind with the word of God and have a good prayer life.

God also speaks through Spiritual leaders he has placed over our lives; he said in Jeremiah 3:15,’’ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.’’You need a sound mentor who can teach you the unadulterated word of God; it will help you a great deal in life.

There are so many benefits of divine direction; I’ll cover some:

Prosperity: Concerning king Uzziah, the bible declares in 2 chronicles 26:5,’’ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.’’As long as he sought the lord, he enjoyed breakthrough in every facet in his life. By sound counsel king Uzziah was a prosperous man. Also the bible declares, if they obey and serve him they will spend their days in prosperity and spend their years in pleasure (Job 36:11). Obedience to the voice of the most high, guarantees breakthrough in every area of your life.

Guidance: Psalm 32:8, declares,’’ I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.’’ God is willing to guide us to our promise land if we would seek him, for he that seeketh findeth. David asked God whether to pursue after the enemy; he also made enquiries concerning the outcome, God was glad to tell him.

Protection: God told Joseph to seek refuge in Egypt because of Herod; he was instructed to return after the death of Herod.

Success: If we’re willing and obedient to the word of the lord, we shall eat the good of the land according to the word of the lord. Abraham is a classical example of the benefit of obedience; he was willing to sacrifice his son, an act that was rewarded bountifully. Also Isaac wanted to go to Egypt because of the famine, he was restrained by God; he stayed and became very great.

Provision: Elijah was told to go to the brook where he was fed by the ravens; God is willing to provide for us, but it comes via counsel.

Conversely, disobedience or neglecting the counsel of the lord can be disastrous; Samson lost his glory courtesy of disobedience; Solomon didn’t finish well because he went after strange women, something, the lord clearly forbade him. Moses didn’t see the Promised Land via disobedience.

We need to spend time in prayer and the word; we must also seek the lord with all our heart for he is waiting to guide us.

The Spirit of understanding places you in an enviable position amongst your peers in life. A powerful reference comes from the men of Issachar reputed to have understanding of the times, thus were head of their folks courtesy of the Spirit of understanding. The Ethiopian eunuch couldn’t understand what he was reading until Philip came along.

Joseph rose to prominence via his understanding of the impending economic crisis and prosperity in Egypt; he became the prime minister courtesy of the Spirit of understanding that was at work in his life.

Daniel is another classical example of a man who had the Spirit of understanding in a unique way; the bible makes us understand in Daniel 1:17, he had understanding in all visions and dreams. This gift played a major role in his ascendancy and relevance in Babylon. Daniel was sought when the finger of God scribbled some text on the wall; the royal household was scared but the queen knew there was someone who had the answer for the Spirit of understanding was upon Daniel.

The Spirit of understanding can help you close that business deal; it can also help you in your academic endeavours. I am a living testimony of this wonderful Spirit; in my undergraduate days, I took some very difficult courses which were difficult for me to understand ab initio, but God granted me grace and gave me a deep understanding of those courses.

There will always be challenging situations to contend with on earth but knowing what to do places you on top of the situation. Jacob had the Spirit of understanding working in his life while working for laban, he was able to devise a new technique to breed new species of animals. The Spirit of wisdom and understanding was at work in his life, hence he was a success.

Jesus Christ knew things in his days that surpassed the imaginations of the doctors of law; they marvelled at his understanding of the law at such a young age having not learnt. Without understanding there can be no salvation, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.
The blessings of God can’t be appropriated without the Spirit of understanding and a victorious life in Christ is impossible without understanding our rights and status in Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ made his disciples understand and of course us, ‘unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God’ but to others it is done in parables and they wont be able to comprehend because they lack understanding. Jesus Christ wasn’t accepted as God in some quarters while he was on earth and even to this day, some sectors dismiss the divinity of Christ because they lack understanding.

Understanding of the word of God is needed for success on earth because all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hid in the word. But it takes understanding of the word of God to subdue mountains and reign on earth. A lot of folks are poor, battered and defeated today for they lack understanding of biblical principles of prosperity. The gift of understanding is available for believers today but you must submit to God with a humble spirit to access understanding. You must be teachable and disciplined to partake of the Spirit of understanding. Shalom

With Boko Haram in the North, National Union of Road Transport Workers in the South West, kidnapping and militancy in the South South; Nigeria is caught in a chain of events that could decide the future of our geographical expression to cull from Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Path to Nigerian Freedom: Nigeria is not a nation but a mere geographical expression.

I have watched with disdain the crisis that has engulfed the Nigerian state for the past few months. The current events if not handled carefully will equate the civil war to a birthday party. All Nations go through challenges but the magnitude, scope and handling of the Nigerian thesis is quite baffling and leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
There is reckless breakdown of law and order in all the regions and walls of Nigeria. The south west region has a bride in the N.U.R.T.W (National Union of Road Transport Workers); a group that has grown in leaps and bounds in violence since its inception, thanks to the largesse and machinations of the politicians who use them for political gains. We have witnessed an avalanche of havoc and destruction of lives and properties courtesy of this gang. The only way out of this mess is to disband this group and establish a caretaker committee with the purpose of reorganizing and restructuring this unit to make it less attractive to what we have at the moment.

Kidnapping has become a very lucrative trade in Nigeria with a headquarter in the Southern part of the country. Kidnapping has become a thriving business thanks to the amnesty it enjoys. From their days of humble beginnings, kidnapping oil expatriates, there has been a paradigm shift to kidnapping grandpa’s and even infants for money. Of course, there has been a lot of political support from politicians in a game of divide and conquer. The will and resolve to fight this cancerous growth is missing from the security forces. As long as ransom remains a dependable factor in kidnapping there will only be an upsurge in cases of kidnappings in the country.

From the show of shame and incompetence on Independence Day credited to Henry Okah, the past few months has witnessed a rise in terrorist attacks by Boko Haram. Boko Haram has taken over the Nigerian polity with bomb attacks, prison breaks and destruction in a very unprecedented manner. Boko Haram has developed a reputation for exposing the weaknesses of the security forces. One would have hoped that from their inauguration in 2002, this terrorist organization would have become a thing of the past. July 2009, during the clash between the security forces and Boko Haram, a clash that claimed about 700 lives, Mohammed Yusuf the founder of Boko Haram was captured and assassinated in the custody of the security forces.

You don’t need to be a psychic or a prophet to know the reason why a terrorist who should stand trial was assassinated. You don’t need a security briefing to know that his sponsors were behind it. The Political gladiators have created a monster in Boko Haram by impoverishing the citizenry and using religion as a weapon to buy votes. Boko Haram decided to put the inspector General of police to another Security 101 exam 3 days after he declared war on them; the result is the June 17, 2011 bomb attack on the police headquarters in Abuja. If the Police headquarter in Abuja can be attacked, where exactly is safe? There has been two more bombings by this sect; where are the Intelligence Agencies?

Edmund burke was right on point when he said “All that is necessary for evil is that good men could do nothing.’’ One would be prompted to ask, what is the president of Nigeria, the chief security officer and commander in chief of the armed forces doing about these dangerous events that is tearing the fabric of the country apart?

The Federal Government has embarked on a dangerous mission of negotiating with Boko Haram.Another crazy thing is currently taking place, police officers are currently been tried in court for the killing of some Boko Haram members. What about the police officers who have been killed by this terrorist organization? What about the churches that has been destroyed by this sect? What about the pastors that have been killed? What about the Imams that have been executed? What about the Innocent lives these criminals have cut short? What kind of government would prosecute her police officers to placate a terrorist organization?

Negotiation with an organization that opposes western education and embraces sharia law is insanity. Nothing good can come out of it. Boko Haram can be likened to a cancerous growth in a man’s leg that is fast spreading; it has to be cut off to save the man’s life. The Federal Government must realize bribe will not solve this situation. This Administration must take the bull by the horns and wipe out any organization that poses a threat to the Nigerian state. The security agencies need training and funding to carry out their duties. Government is serious business; good luck won’t keep Nigeria safe.
