THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL

There is nothing God desires than fellowship and communion with him; he has made this possible via counsel, which are profitable for our Christian walk on earth. God instructs us in diverse ways via the Holy Spirit; it could be the audible voice of the Spirit albeit it seldom is; dreams and visions; via his word; inward witness, which is the primary way the Spirit of God communicates with us. There could also be an impression in our spirit,or a nudge in a certain direction.

God speaks to us in diverse manners; it’s our job to discover the primary way God communicates with us and develop it. The bible declares:’’ But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him (1 John 2:20,27).’’ The Holy Spirit is present on our inside to guide us into all truth.

God is in the business of speaking, It is therefore funny to hear, ‘I can’t hear from God’; the bible says he that has ears let him hear what the Spirit saith; so it is important to be in the spirit to hear what God is saying. The book of Job 33:14-16, makes us understand:,’ For God [does reveal His will; He] speaks not only once, but more than once, even though men do not regard it [including you, Job].[One may hear God’s voice] in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men while slumbering upon the bed, Then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction [terrifying them with warnings].

In the book of revelation, we’re made to understand John was in the spirit and he heard a voice…Until you are in the Spirit, you can’t hear from God. You must saturate your mind with the word of God and have a good prayer life.

God also speaks through Spiritual leaders he has placed over our lives; he said in Jeremiah 3:15,’’ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.’’You need a sound mentor who can teach you the unadulterated word of God; it will help you a great deal in life.

There are so many benefits of divine direction; I’ll cover some:

Prosperity: Concerning king Uzziah, the bible declares in 2 chronicles 26:5,’’ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.’’As long as he sought the lord, he enjoyed breakthrough in every facet in his life. By sound counsel king Uzziah was a prosperous man. Also the bible declares, if they obey and serve him they will spend their days in prosperity and spend their years in pleasure (Job 36:11). Obedience to the voice of the most high, guarantees breakthrough in every area of your life.

Guidance: Psalm 32:8, declares,’’ I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.’’ God is willing to guide us to our promise land if we would seek him, for he that seeketh findeth. David asked God whether to pursue after the enemy; he also made enquiries concerning the outcome, God was glad to tell him.

Protection: God told Joseph to seek refuge in Egypt because of Herod; he was instructed to return after the death of Herod.

Success: If we’re willing and obedient to the word of the lord, we shall eat the good of the land according to the word of the lord. Abraham is a classical example of the benefit of obedience; he was willing to sacrifice his son, an act that was rewarded bountifully. Also Isaac wanted to go to Egypt because of the famine, he was restrained by God; he stayed and became very great.

Provision: Elijah was told to go to the brook where he was fed by the ravens; God is willing to provide for us, but it comes via counsel.

Conversely, disobedience or neglecting the counsel of the lord can be disastrous; Samson lost his glory courtesy of disobedience; Solomon didn’t finish well because he went after strange women, something, the lord clearly forbade him. Moses didn’t see the Promised Land via disobedience.

We need to spend time in prayer and the word; we must also seek the lord with all our heart for he is waiting to guide us.
